Angie Mowat

Primary Health Mental Health GP Integration Coordinator
2006 – Present
My key roles
My role as the GP Liaison Nurse (Mental Health GP Integration Programme) is to provide mental health clinical expertise to GP’s and Practice Nurses whilst supporting the transfer of consumers from secondary service care to GP care. In addition to this, the aim of my role is to provide the primary sector with an identifiable key contact to support improved mental health care in the primary sector for those identified consumers on the integrated care programme.
The Mental Health GP Integration Programme is available to assist people to transfer their mental health care to their nominated GP. By visiting a GP regularly, people have their mental health and physical health needs met. Some key aspects of my role include providing a link between consumers and their multi-disciplinary teams (including GPs); education and consultative advice on relevant mental health treatments and assessments; and de-stigmatisation of mental illness within the primary sector.
My experience
I am a Registered Comprehensive Nurse with my practice developed predominately in the mental health sector. I have experience in supporting mental health service users within residential support settings as well as community based care.
What inspires me
As a registered nurse, I endeavour to ensure my practice is effective, safe and consumer focussed. I inspire to work towards maximising the maintenance of health for all persons participating in the GP Integration Programme. It is a pleasurable and a most rewarding role enhanced by the people I support as well as the team I work with.
